How safe is Dowie?
By: Martin | August 14th, 2008
There has been a lot of speculation on Iain Dowie’s future at Loftus Road. If one looks at his career, he has had much more success in getting teams promoted than keeping them in the Premiership. I had the sneaking suspicion ever since his appointment that he would stay through promotion, but if QPR is promoted, he would be replaced. This article, which I highly recommend reading for its summary of the summer signings, suggests that others have that suspicion too. There have been suggestions of tensions between Dowie and the ownership, but these have been denied and QPR hasn’t lost yet. How long will he be around - a month, a year, into the future? Right now, it’s anyone’s guess. What do you think?

I think he’ll be around for the year. He’s a decent enough COACH to get teams promoted, but falls off after that. I don’t think management will get rid of him mid year, especially with what’s expected of this club. So time will tell, but I say he’s done at the end of the year either on his own terms or released because of his prior track record with EPL teams.

Dowie won’t make it to January. What track record with Prem clubs? Briatore is making the signings and selecting the team and already the fans are turning against the situation. They were expecting big signings, not Serie A reserves - who by all accounts were squabbling among themselves on Saturday. All is not well in W12.
